Happy Holidays

We want to thank all our loyal customers for your continued  support, and we wish all of you a  Happy Holiday Season.

We’re so fortunate to be part of a collaborative community, and one that has a goal of making valuable contributions to science and education.   At  a time when there’s so much turmoil in the world, this is about as good as it gets.

Happy Holidays

DC-3 Dreams is pleased to announce a new release of our free planning program.  ACP Planner is a tool that allows you to create "observing plans" which guide ACP through an automated/remote observing session.  ACP Planner 3.1 provides direct uploading of plans to a remote observatory, without having to go through the Share Your Sky! browser interface.  For complete information, visit  the DC3-Dreams Com Center (http://forums.dc3.com/), General Information section.

With the ACP Planner, you can write your observing plans anytime — it’s completely independent of ACP.  So if you want to write your plans on an airplane, you can do that, as long as you have your laptop with you.

“How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.”

— Anne Frank

Arnie Rosner, the founder and owner of Global Rent-a-Scope,  says that “now for the first time in the history of mankind, anyone with an internet connection can connect to the GRAS Telescope Network http://www.Global-Rent-a-Scope.com and control a remote ground-based, space telescope-like remote observatory”.

Arnie has collaborated with RAS (Remote Astronomical Society of New Mexico) to make sophisticated observing accessible for amateur astronomers as well as professionals.

We’re pleased that GRAS is using ACP as the interface for Internet remote access.  Arnie says he’s “captured an audience that might never have had a reason to use ACP, as they are

either casual imagers or very new to astrophotography in general. The ability to observe remotely has opened up a whole new world for many people.”

Arnie Rosner and Brad Moore have done some amazing work to extensively customize ACP for their operation.  ACP's unique open architecture has made this possible.

Another project enabled by GRAS is worth noting.  AAVSO former President Bill Dillon recently participated in  HST supporting observations of SDSS091908 by observing the object from three countries simultaneously — made possible by using Global Rent-a-Scope.

Global Rent-a-Scope is also partnering with student groups, such as an astronomy club at Jonas Salk Elementary School in Bolingbrook, Illinois.  This project has been funded by a grant obtained by Audrey Fisher; and Audrey is also providing matching “points” for the students (these points are the GRAS method of payment).

Arnie recently announced that it’s possible to view a demo of a remote observing session on You Tube.  Check out his press release  — and thanks to Arnie for featuring ACP as the browser interface for that remote session!
